On Point’s Tips for a Stress-Free Back-to-School

And just like that, the summer is coming to a close and we’re back to school! Whether you’re excited about sending the kids back, or you’re dreading the coming weeks of mayhem as you all settle into a routine, one thing is for sure: back-to-school time can be stressful for all of us.

Thankfully, a little planning and some new wellness habits can make going back to school fun for everyone. Try a few of these tips to relieve the back to school scaries and say hello to a brand new school year!

Decompress in the Salt Cave.

The salt cave is a little piece of paradise, right here in Beckley. Treat your stressed-out student (or yourself!) to a relaxing after-school trip to the salt cave to help them ease into the new year feeling focused and relaxed.

Acupuncture for the whole family.

The back-to-school season can be stressful for parents, kids, and other family members. Along with new schedules, sports, meetings, homework, and other daily to-dos, back–to-school also coincides with the start of fall when our immune systems become more vulnerable. There’s no better time for a de-stressing, immune-boosting acupuncture visit at On Point!

Practice morning and after school meditations.

A quick 10 minute meditation in the morning can work wonders for stressed-out students and parents alike. Use an app like Calm or Insight Timer to do a before school morning meditation together before starting your separate days. This helps to reduce anxiousness and prepare everyone (even teachers!) for a great day.

After school, a body scan or focus meditation can help us make an easy transition into our evening routines and decompress from the school day.

Schedule downtime.

The rush of the school season can easily linger on well into the year without some thoughtful planning. Don’t forget to schedule rest and quiet times into everyone’s day. This “non-doing” time gives young minds a chance to grow and be creative, and older minds some much needed rest.
